Programs for Children

Laurel Heights Hospital offers treatment programs for children with general psychiatric difficulties and trauma, and specialty mental health programs for children with co-occurring neurodevelopmental disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Program

Our specialty inpatient psychiatric treatment program provides crisis stabilization for children age 6 and over. Some of our inpatient psychiatric patients have also been diagnosed with co-occurring Autism Spectrum Disorder or other neurodevelopmental disorders. Services include medication management, behavior analysis and family training sessions.

Residential Psychiatric Program

The Child Mental Health Program at Laurel Heights Hospital provides longer-term psychiatric treatment for boys ages 6–12. This program is designed to help younger children learn to manage their psychiatric behavioral symptoms through effective medication management, group and family therapy. Participants in this program attend Laurel Heights Academy.

Autism Spectrum Disorder Treatment Program

Through our Discovery Program, we provide a highly specialized residential treatment program for children ages 6 and up with Autism Spectrum Disorder who have severe behavioral difficulties and psychiatric illnesses. Our primary objective in treatment is to teach new skills and behaviors that allow our patients to meet their needs in positive ways, thereby reducing severe behaviors such as aggression or self-injury.
